I had a Breville Cafe Roma, a good machine, but one that I would regard as entry level. Although the Breville had no trouble making espressos with a nice layer of crema, the (recently upgraded) steaming wand was still a weak spot. Also, there’s no hot water dispenser on that model.

After extensive research, I decided to purchase the Gaggia Espresso Color. Although no reviews of this model were available, I really liked the price, the color, the overall design, and the favorable reviews I had seen for other machines in the Gaggia line. This machine is compact, stylish, and includes elements found on higher end machines like a commercial portafilter, a stainless steel boiler, and a Pannarello attachment for the steaming wand. Also, I kept coming across the same brand names over and over again with a sterling reputation in the espresso world, and Gaggia is one of those names.

I am very happy with my Gaggia. I really feel that it is a cut above my old Breville. The insides of the machine (the boiler, the heating elements, the valves) are top notch. It is a very efficient machine which does a great job and is worth every penny.

There is a learning curve with this machine because the commercial portafilter does not contain a pressure mechanism like the filters in thermablock systems. The requisite pressure for properly extracted espresso is very dependent on the fineness and consistency of the grind and the pressure used to tamp the coffee. This machine is all about the ritual of making espresso, meaning you need to pay attention to details like prepping and preheating the machine, and minding the coffee grind and the tamp. The reward, however, is an excellent espresso that trumps what is sold at the typical coffee shop. The Pannarello attachment to the steaming wand removes a lot of the guesswork for making steamed milk and foam. The foam I have had from this machine is dense and luscious and makes my latte feel like a mini-vacation;-). The espressos and lattes I have had from this machine far exceed what I had from the Breville. They’re also a lot better than what I (used to) get from Starbucks. Thanks to my Gaggia, I can now get my espresso fix at home (and save beaucoup bucks at the same time)!Best Buy Gaggia 102534 Best Price, Buy Now! [Click Here!]

Espresso machines are perhaps the most popular kitchen appliances available today. Who doesn’t like a creamy, cafe style espresso early in the morning? It certainly beats the regular cup of coffee! So, how exactly did espresso machines become so popular?

In 1901, an Italian manufacturing company creating the very first espresso machine. The inventor was doing nothing more then trying to increase production, by speeding up the time employees took for their work breaks. The first units were sold to the public in 1905. In later years, manufacturers added a piston pump, which forcibly sent water into the tube and combined with the coffee everyone loves.

During the Second World War, production of the espresso machine was slow, but increased shortly there after the end of the war. In 1946, the first commercial unit was produced. In the years since, many manufacturers have developed new and improved machines carrying so many different time saving features and fabulous colors.

What to Look For in the Perfect Espresso Machine

If you want to buy the best Espresso machines to suit your coffee needs, there are a few factors you need to keep in mind. These include:

Is it easy to use?

Before buying any machine, the first thing you will want to look at is how easy the machine is to use. You do not want to have to spend fifteen to twenty minutes trying to understand how to get it to work, you want your espresso, and you want it now. What is great is that now days, you can find many different features that help you time and hassles. You will want to do your homework of course, to find out which machine is best for you.

Does it have a milk-frothing rod or wand?

A frothing rod, if attached to the machine, will work to give you frothier milk in your espresso. If you have a wand, it helps you save time and froths milk faster and easier than the rod.

Features

It is important to do your homework, shop, and compare before buying a machine. With the various features offered on different espresso machines, you will want to make sure you buy the one that works well with you and your needs. For example, some machines will have features that make the filter and water tank much easier to clean than others. Some machines will also come with a filter that works to trap in more heat. We all know that temperature affects the overall taste and texture of the espresso.

Of course, one thing you should keep in mind is that as a machine has more features, is easier to use, and more convenient, the more it will cost you. Therefore, it is important that you know how much you can and are willing to spend before you run off buying an espresso machine.

To wrap it up, it can be difficult and tricky to find the perfect espresso machine, thanks to all the features and manufacturers. However, if you make sure that you do your homework and purchase a machine that comes with easy maintenance, you will find yourself enjoying espresso any time you want it.

Make sure you keep your machine clean on a regular basis. If lime scale is allowed to build, it could create a health hazard and even damage the machine. If you need tips on cleaning the machine, there are plenty of resources available to you on the internet.

Summary:

Espresso machines are the fastest selling kitchen appliances in the market today. A good machine with some unique features can make all the difference to your coffee. But with so many styles and models available in the market, buying the one that suits your needs becomes difficult.

Using an Espresso Machine to Make the Perfect Espresso

If you are like so many other people in the world, you need to have that great cup of caffeine, first thing in the morning, to get on with your day. However, in this busy world, with everyone moving so quickly, people are turning away from regular coffee and looking to Espresso for help in starting their day.

Regular Coffee vs. Espresso Coffee

Espresso coffee differs in many different ways from regular coffee. For example, with espresso it is created using an espresso machine. Furthermore, the espresso is generally fresher when it comes to taste than its regular counterpart. The freshness comes from using the finest beans and longer roasting times. Regular coffee does not roast as long, leaving the rich coffee oils to stay confined.

However, regular coffee does carry more caffeine than espresso coffee, even though the latter carries a better, richer taste. Less caffeine comes from the fact that because hot water flows very quickly into the coffee grounds, it does not gather all of the caffeine out of the grounds.

The popularity of espresso coffee comes from its thicker texture. The thicker texture and creamy, smooth topping leads people to opt for espresso over regular coffee.

To get their caffeine fix quickly, many people would rather have two shots of espresso than one cup of regular coffee. Shots are how espressos are measured. If you are a cappuccino or latte fan, espresso machines can be used for those as well, giving you more choices over regular coffee.

The begin making espresso; you will need to have an espresso machine. Espresso just offers more variety of regular coffee, not to mention less caffeine, richer flavor, and creamy texture, which makes it very popular.

Making the Perfect Espresso

If you just love the espresso, you find at the cafe in your area, you may be surprised to find that you can make the same, right at home. The secret to this is how the beans are ground and the espresso machine you own. If you are looking for the perfect grind, we suggest an Electric Burr grinder.

When making espresso, the first thing that the hot water comes in contact with is the filter and its holder. If you want the perfect espresso, it is necessary to keep the drink warm. Some manufacturers have developed filter holders specifically designed to hold heat, keeping the drink warm with every brew.

Another key factor in taste is the water you are using. It is suggested that you always filter your water. You can test your water by pouring it into a cup, fresh out of the espresso machine, and allow it to cool. Once is has cooled enough, taste the water to determine if it is still fresh.

The beans you use also determine if you will have the best espresso coffee or not. You will want to make sure the bean is perfectly ground, not too find, not too dark, and not too oily. You will want beans that are blended perfectly. We suggest beans that are consistent in texture, gritty, and fine.

In conclusion, if you have taken the above tips to heart, you will have made the perfect espresso. If it results in a smooth, thick, sweet, reddish-brown creamy top, you have succeeded. Remember though, it may take a lot of practice and a whole lot of patient to make that perfect cup of espresso.

Summary:

If you, like many others, have found that regular coffee just is not doing it for you, consider espresso coffee. You can create the perfect espresso right at home, all you need to start with is the right espresso machine.

# Review DeLonghi BAR32 Retro Pump-Driven 35 Ounce Espresso Maker

I became a Starbucks junkie since the birth of my second child whom is now 8. My mom got me my first espresso Mr. Coffee Steam driven espresso machine. I killed it within a year and a half. So I stepped it up, and got another Mr. Coffee that was steam driven with heated cup rack (which was discontinued shortly after purchase due to its issues) It stopped making hot espresso, so since it had a warranty they sent me another steam driven, which died 6 months later.

I researched long and hard and settled on this Delonghi Bar32 in Feb 2005 for $169 and got a 2 year warranty for $29. I fell in love. The cups of coffee brewed were stronger, with crema. The steam frother worked great. I’ve used pods and ground espresso (burr ground works BEST)interchangably. Since I wanted this to last I clean it regularly, but 7 months ago, it started not accepting the ground coffee. And the pods brewed did not stay as hot. I’ve used this machine just about everyday as all machines I have had. Needless to say….my machine has died. The frother still works great, I can extract coffee using the pods, but they are only luke warm. I called DeLonghi for help and they told me that my warranty has expired, and that there are NO repair shops in Georgia. The problem is that the pump may be dead. So I am on the hunt. I have settled for the Delonghi 155 and will order it in a few days. I will give my rating then.
But on this machine, it is GREAT….just wanted it to be with me a bit longer than it was I was hoping for 5 years…but I got my money’s worth. Starbuck quality. I could pull several shots from this machine with no problem. This machine is definately priced right and you will get a great quality. It made me happy for its time with me. You will be happy with its decor and its performance! It had 3 1/2 years with me, the savings of close to $800 a year if you had the habit I have…..this was great!

Followed
all the instructions right out of the box. The result was an error code
(DREGDRAW MISS). Customer service was helpful… so helpful in fact I
could tell I wasn’t the first person with this problem. They emailed me
info to remove the brew unit using a screwdriver to over-ride the
program that was locking it in place. Still no luck. Then they thought
maybe it was one of the three pressure switches. In the end they
offered to have it shipped back for repairs. I delcined and returned it
to where I bought it. I’m sure the thing works great, but you had
better be prepared for breakdowns and have a plan to deal with them.

I bought this machine to replace my Senseo because it can make a nice cafe crema with any coffee that I want and isn’t nearly as messy as a regular espresso machine. The only thing that would make this PERFECT would be if you could select your cup size (2, 4, 8oz) and then come back to your full mug of cafe crema. If you’re a purist, this machine doesn’t make true espresso, but I don’t mind making my cappucinos at home using cafe crema instead of espresso. I find that quite often I get a nicer cappucino at home than I do at one of the big coffee retailers. And when I don’t feel like having a milk-based drink, I can use my own beans and just get an 8oz cup of fabulous coffee. Also this works great with plain-old ground coffee from the grocery store…though nothing tastes or smells as good as fresh ground. :)

In the long run, I do think this will save money…not having to buy expensive pods. And I only visit the large coffee retailers maybe once a month now as opposed to going a few times a week so at $3.50 per drink this machine will pay for itself relatively quickly.

Happy coffee and enjoy.

# Discount DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Maker

My husband loves coffee and he has been wanting an espresso machine for years. As our first Christmas together as husband and wife I wanted to give him one but was clueless about how to choose a good one.
This machine is not professional quality, but it is very good for a household, it is not too much problem to keep and maintain and it makes very good coffees.

You will have to turn it on ahead of time for it to warm up, but so with all the espresso machines. You need to clean it regularly so the filter does not clot (but not every day, we use an old tooth brush) and you have to be careful that it does not dry out. He always keeps about 1-2 inches of water in the reservoir. If it does dry out, the pump will have a hard time getting started again, but it is not a big deal, you just keep passing water until is ready to go gain.

I have read some bad reviews for this product and I was a little nervous about it. But we have been having it for almost a year and it works great for us.
